ALUMINUM K-ALLOY(A304)
K-Alloy, also known as A304, is a patented die casting aluminum alloy designed to withstand harsh operating conditions. It is one of the most corrosion resistant aluminum alloys used for die casting. It was first developed in 2003 by Delphi Corp. and is exclusively sold by specific suppliers.
K-Alloy Characteristics
K-Alloy/A304 is specialized to survive harsh environments. The alloy is known for its enhanced corrosion resistance. K-Alloy castings can withstand up to 3000 hours of salt spray without any notable damage to the surface. This is possible without applying any additional surface finishing.
Therefore, K-Alloy minimizes or eliminates the need for additional finishing operations. So, pre and post-processing like anodizing or painting are not required for K-alloy castings. Moreover, the castings can withstand extreme temperatures, shocks, and vibrations.
Advantages
K-Alloy/A304 has some unique benefits over other popular commercial alloys such as A360, ADC10, A413, etc. Some of the key benefits include,
- Has superior corrosion resistance; thus suitable for challenging operating conditions
- Eliminates the need for additional surface finishing
- Better thermal conductivity than A380, which also contributes to its cooling properties
- Exhibits better elongation (5%) than most other aluminum alloys and can be extended up to 8-14% through heat treatment
- No special equipment or process is required; can be cast like any other die casting alloy
- Offers extended die life equal to that of A380 alloy
Applications
K-Alloy/A304 has multitudes of applications in various industries. Some typical applications of K-alloy include,
- Parts designed to withstand the harsh under the hood harsh environment of automobiles
- Electronic device housing for better protection from the outside environment
- Residential or commercial application of outdoor lighting fixtures
- Drone, antenna, and radio parts used for military applications
- Superior thermal properties allow for heat sink applications
- Ideal for automotive electrification
- Prevent saltwater damage to recreational equipment used in marine environments such as fishing reels and boat fittings.
